Uncle Dan's Assistant Manager Job Description

The Shift Leader is responsible for supporting the Store Manager in driving and sustaining sales by managing day-to-day operations of Uncle Dan's. This includes but is not limited to; assisting in staff selection and recruitment, staff motivation and supervision, establishment and maintenance of strong work teams to ensure sales goals are met. In this leadership role you will promote a strong level of customer service that exceeds customer expectations.

Customer Service Defined Responsibilities

: Provide strong customer-focused service through "The Uncle Dan's Experience"

 

Essential Duties:

Assume store manager responsibilities in his/her absence

Maintain strong partnership with Store Manager; provide updates on the progress of store and staff

Work with Store Manager to determine, drive and sustain sales goals and profitability

Becomes cross-trained to effectively perform all operations including: visual merchandising, inventory maintenance, shipping and receiving responsibilities as needed

Communicates employee feedback to the store manager

Assists in interview/recruitment of a quality, sales-oriented staff that pursue passions related to our products and philosophy

Assist with the evaluation of staff performance; including making recommendations on hiring, compensation and promotion

When necessary, discipline employees consistent with the company policy

Assists in scheduling employees to provide good customer service, while keeping overtime expenses as close to zero as possible

Maintains store resource supply levels at all times

Delegates markdowns as directed by management

Communicates with the Store Manger regarding inventory, markdowns and trends

Assures timeliness of reporting receipt of goods to staff/customer

Oversee daily product restock on the sales floor and report store shortages

Adheres to procedures for receiving shipments, transferring customer merchandise and handling damaged products

Supervises daily workflow by planning and assigning daily goals, tasks and assignments

Assists in agendas and scheduling of staff meetings and training clinics

Solves customer related problems

 

Creates a climate within the store in which staff are motivated to do their best, has strong morale and team spirit; shares wins and successes; fosters open dialogue; and creates a feeling of belonging within the team

Manages and motivates sales staff in a manner that ensures sales goals are met

Mentor sales techniques and product expertise

Train and motivate all staff to exceed customer expectations through outstanding selling and service skills

Sets clear expectations and goals and holds employees accountable

Communicates store goals and objectives to floor staff

Assists in training sales associates on skills and techniques to insure visual merchandise presentation is inviting, appealing, easy for the customer to shop

Insure all company policy and procedures are communicated in a timely manner and adhered to accordingly

Assist in protecting company assets through promoting awareness of loss prevention

Provide an "open door" policy where employees are free to express their concerns and feelings without fear of retribution or ill will

Excellent verbal communication skills

Able to lead, build teams and motivate staff

Able to train and delegate effectively

Problem solving ability

Ability to multi task in a fast paced, hands-on environment

Strong self initiative

General computer skills; including use of Excel, Word, Outlook

Previous experience in retailing highly preferred

 

Physical Requirements:

The Shift Leader will uphold the company's voice on ethics and policy to educate and inspire our customers

 

Able to stand/walk for extended periods of time.

Able to reach, bend, squat, kneel, navigate stairs while carrying boxes.

Able to perform store maintenance items: sweep, vacuum, empty trash, clean.

Able to safely lift boxes up to 55 lbs

Comfortable in climbing ladders

Available to work store schedule Sunday to Saturday

Some travel may be required

Maintain safe working conditions for employees and customers. Resolve safety concerns quickly

Confronts and documents unsatisfactory performance and policy violations

Resolves employee questions and problems

Adheres to all company policies

Ensure store security from internal and external theft and know proper apprehension procedures
